It it were me, I would shop from private owners and would not purchase a bike with that much mileage. You could probably arrange a talk with the previous owner thru your friends and ask questions about this bike.
Best of Luck.

A buddy of mine has a 2007 Street Glide with about 72k on it. He always maintains it as per the manual. After about 50k it has had numerous problems. Trans, rear cylinder, flat cam lobe, output shaft seals and bearings. Among several other things. Some bikes will go many, many miles and never need anything but basic maintenance while others will literally start falling apart. Buying a used bike with that many miles is just a recipe for disaster. I would personally stay way from it unless you can pick it up for a great price. Which I would say is around $8,000.00.

That mileage is too high to pay more than 7,000. Take a look on CL for private or if you must go dealer/finance route try to stay under 20K miles if you want it to last as long as your payments will.

Like the 03 heritage post: Tons of used LOW mileage bikes here in the northeast. Look around, all the HD's bought for garage candy in the boom years are now selling cheap. Hell my 07 had only 2500 miles put on in 5 yrs.

Too many miles for my comfort zone unless the price is right! I did talk to a guy a month or so ago that had over 100K on an Evo heritage and no problems. Like others have said, lots of low mileage bikes on cl.

An 06 still has the old style tensioners unless they've been replaced and at 68k they surely have been. Or look for a 07 and newer bike with the new Hyd system.

That is one check that must be done! on a 88''er or gear cams installed, either way U must find out what's in there.

Dealers offer $1K less on trade in on a 88''er if there not changed out is what I am hearing now.

Thats an average of 11k a year on the bike, IMHO I'd wouldn't worry about the bikes miles as some would if the Price is right.
If U know the history of the bike and how it was ridden and maintained that should make a BIG diff.

I've seen and read a lot of 88 and 96 owner in here that 100K is not unusual without having any major issues.

U can take the savings if U buy it right and do a 95BB kit, and new cams. and still have less money than U would have buying a lower mileage bike while now U can have a new top end that will go a long time.

read through here on the 96'er with higher mileage.
https://www.hdforums.com/forum/softa...olding-up.html

It all depends on what they want for it and how much U can afford to spend.
Also if U want to travel across the country (I'd want a good dependable bike) or just ride mostly not far from home and how many miles U put on a YR.

So, if bought right, and U only put 3-5 k a yr it could last U Yrs with out doing anything to her.

We have a shop softail with 73K and thought about selling it, but with the mileage on it regardless of the care that has been taken to maintain it it is not going to yield the amount of money we want. There are plenty of clean garage queens out there with 3000 miles for a few bucks more.

Dude, far be it for me or any one else to tell you what to do with your money but this is a buyers market right now, there are TONS of bikes out there for sale, why buy one with that many miles on it especially from a dealer? The "RISK" level is just to high unless you are getting the bike for next to nothing and I doubt that is the case since the dealer is selling it. You can bet he tagged at least 2k on to that bike from what they paid for it. Craiglists Harleys in your area or the next biggest town next to you. There are TONS of deals out there right now. I got my scooter, an 06 and it only had 4k miles on it and a TON of work alreday done on it and to it. Good luck on your choice and quest but if it were me, no way!!! I wouldn't even consider it, period!
