Default 03 fatboy only getting 32mpg????

My stepdad just picked up an 03 fatboy. Stock carb and hooker exhaust. From what i can tell everything else seemed stock. It didnt sound to me like it had cams. He is only averaging 32 miles per gallon. What do you think? Could it have a big bore kit? Still if it did, that seems low for a harley. What do you guys think?

If the carb is tuned properly and the ignition is correct and the air filter is clean, then his riding style it the number one influence gas mileage. My 03 Heritage (EFI) gets about 34mpg when I'm getting on the throttle a bit to much and that zooms up to 42 mpg when just cruising around.

He definetly is not running it hard. All highway miles. I suspect the carb is not in tune.

I get about 38 mpg cruising around town and 41 on highway with my 02 Fatboy EFI. Not sure if it matters, but I run 91 octane non-oxy gas.

Thats low for sure if all is well, meaning no missing or any other issues.

A carbed bike usually get even better mileage than the FI'ed ones.

42-50 is not unusual,

Another thing is if its got cams and even a BB kit they also usually get better mileage than the stock motors... Also depends on the Twisting of the right hand.

My mileage went up 2-3 when I did the stg1 and then another 2-3 when I did the cams.

When mine was new I got 37-40, now I can get 44-46 most all of the time on the road and 41-43 in town.
The worst mileage I can remember was 36 and that was right after I had the cams done, seems like the throttle was stuck open at lot on that first tank when I got her back....

Also any stock bike should get better mileage after the motors broken in really good which is at least 5k.
Actually my bike seemed to run better every Yr for the first 3 yrs or up to 25k.

Another thing is Ethanol gas and colder temps will lower Ur mileage, 10% lower is not unusual.
