Default charging problems on my 99 night train

ok so i replaced the battery in the night train cause it boiled all the water out of the walmart battery, and i just thought that it was the walmart battery, however i replaced it with a harley battery. and the other day when we were on a 200 mile ride, i smelled the acid in the harley battery. like the walmart battery, and today i went to ride to work and it is dead again, any ideas on this problem? not sure if this is related, but half the time my speedo doesnt work, not sure if this is related or not. thanks for any help you guys can give.

The two issues are likely related. I recommend that you preform some voltage tests. My guess is you have a stator or regulator issue.

Had the exactsame problem on my 99 faboy last summer. I replaced the voltage regulator and have had no issues since. I"m pretty sure it was around $130 and took less than an hour. Good luck

Sounds like you're overcharging, bad voltage regulator. Simple to test with a cheap voltmeter.
