Default 2000 fatboy to 2004 paint -fuel gauge elex question

Hey ya'll... spent some time reading the forum and this looks like a great place to hang out! Just returned from the middle east and while I was there I purchased an awesome sheetmetal set from Attitude Custom Painting out of Pinalis Park, FL. I have gone through a slight learing curve in seeing what needed and I wanted to send out this post before I started the dissassembly.

The 2000 through 2003 softtail carb version uses a float/sending unit under the left cap/guage. The 2004 uses a sending unit under the cover... where the efi version has its unit... along whith the efi required items.

The sheetmetal setup that I bought is 2004... I have a new sending unit on the way to cover the huge hole in my tank. I planned on just not even using a fuel guage, but I came accross those awesome flush mount hidden LED gauge / cap sets and just had to have one. I was trying to insert a pic of the tank to show how well the blue led's will match my blue fame but I am having trouble inserting a pic.

Anyway... anybody have any idea how where I will splice in the power for this new guage? I will have the connector just like the 2004 under the dash and I will have the fuel gauge set up for the 2004, but with my original 2000 wiring.
Anyone with any similar experience would be a huge and very appreciated help! Thanks

Owen... welcome to the forum.. You'll learn to spot the old posts after awhile... I still get caught by them every now & then...

However... about your question...

I haven't looked at the wiring diagram for an '04.... I don't know how the fuel gauge is wired... I am basing my suggestion solely on the OP's description of what he had...

I know the '03 fuel gauge plugs into a small, two wire connector, along the top, left side of the frame, under the gas tank...

If you are switching from an '03 gauge to an '04 guage as described by the OP, maybe you could splice into the '03 wiring to power the new gauge...??? Based on the OP's description, you won't be using the original '03 gauge wiring any longer...

Good luck..
