That's what I was thinking till I got a new nut at the dealer and it already has a spot of red sealer inside the acorn nut. So I guess it's just factory. : (
Mmmmm............................................. ....I have a related problem!
I want to change the 'leather' console strip that runs on top of the tank.
I have undone the acorn nut as suggested but it seems that the actual chrome console will not budge. The bolt is loose in its fixing once the nut is removed.
Having loosened the acorn nut do I need to pull the console in an upwards direction or does it need to slide forward in the direction of the front of the bike?
How can some something so simple, be so awkward!! I don't want want to force it in the wrong direction!!

Yea its just stuck. With the acorn nut off it should come. Reach to the front of the console and stick your fingers in where the wires go and give her a tug.
