Deuce fuel gauge problem
I have a 2002 non EFI Deuce. My fuel gauge has gone out is there anything I can troubleshoot before digging into the tank? It does lite up so it is getting power. Is there a common fault like the sending unit going bad or something like that?
I would unplug the connector & clean the contacts & see what happens.
I seriously doubt it is the sending unit, the gauge has probably just
headed south. If you know anyone else with a Softail you might try hooking
up their gauge to see if it works on your bike, then you'll know for sure.

The sending units are reasonably bulletproof, if notoriously inaccurate, so its probably the gauge itself or the connection under the tank.
If you have a manual, you should have one, check it to see if it has a troubleshooting routine for the gauge or shows what the voltage should be when the tank is empty or full.
If it has either one you should be able to figure out if its the sender or the gauge that's screwing up.
Me, I might not even bother except for curiosity.
Mine is so inaccurate that I have never paid much attention to it and instead rely on the trip meter to know when its time to get more gas.
