Default Blackline tag bracket

I know there are a bunch of questions about this, but I searched and couldn't find my answer. I bought one of the side mount tag brackets for my 2012 Blackline. When I removed the stock tag bracket there is an aluminum looking plate with 2 bolt holes sticking down. How did you you guys get that off? Is it bolted or did you have to cut? Sorry if this is a repeat question. Please help a new Harley owner!

no cutting required, its mounted fromm the bolts going threw your struts on the side of your fender. all that aluminum piece is connected. take off the two bolts on each side of rear fender, it will come out.

I would pull it out, cut it at the welds to get rid of the license plate mounting tabs, and put the brace back in. I think it is steel, not aluminum, and it seems like a brace for the fender and struts to me. If you are going to ride with a passenger I would probably leave it in.

I took the fender off...very easy to do....then I removed the entire bracket and simply put everything back together minus the bracket. No cutting required.

I also pulled the plate light wire back and wired it to the new side mount bracket with cool combo LED lights and plate bolts

i did it all with it still mounted. believe i.just took the four bolts out, removed it, and put the bolts back in, i would take the wires out at the same time also. i ride mostly with a passenger and havent seen any ill effects of riding without the bracket, but not saying it cant happen. just not sure it its also a brace or just a mounting bracket
