Thought about it for couple mins.. I can only remember a couple times I felt really hot on our bike, both times it was while stuck in heavy traffic in INDY during the 5;00 rush.
Easiest way not to get hot would be stay away from Heavy congested traffic if possible so U can keep moving. But some can't always do that.
Heat rises so I'd think it can't be deflected down, only moved around and exit another place which is what the deflectors do.
Thinking the heat has to come out the front or rear of the deflectors, and with the cup effect I wonder if they would make the seat a lot hotter.???
I do think and see how they would keep the heat off the bottom of our thigh's which are a tender area during long idling periods while in traffic.
I could only suggest them thinking they have to help but I don't know anyone who have used them.
My vertically-challenged g/f's problem isn't engine or exhaust pipe heat but the oil bag hitting her leg. From the pics the Cap'n Itch only covers part of the oil bag - can anyone comment on whether this is enough to alleviate her issue?
I'll have to get her to try to identify just where she's hitting the oil bag.
I had the same issue on my Heritage. I bought a heat deflector from Kuryakyn and it was better than nothing. I then found a Capt Itch crotch cooler for sale on the forum and bought it. It works great and looks cool too.

Thanks.
Our crotch cooler will definitely help out your vertically-challenged girl friend. Most of the time they will hit the oil spout where the dipstick is,this will cover it but still allow you to check the oil.Below is a photo of one on a Softail and you can see what it covers. After a couple of hundred miles it will mold around the oil tank and lay down nicely..
Just got Capt Itch Crotch Cooler today for my GF's Heritage. I can't say how much relief from the heat yet, but I will say it is very well done! Oh and it got here in like 3 days.
So add me to the happy list!
My crotch cooler came a couple days ago. super fast shipping here as well. Went for a drive and didn't feel a bit of heat, where before my right thigh felt like it was on fire. Im 5'1, and have the super low reach seat on my '12 heritage....The quality of the product was MUCH better than I had expected.
This may sound like a stupid question, but Ill throw it out anyway! Would this have adverse affects on the engine being that it is not allowing the heat to escape? Or is the fact that it can no longer escape in the spots that these cover just too small of a consideration to affect the overall running temperature?? Seems to me you are compounding the no air flow/overheating issue of air cooled engine???
