This has probably been asked but I can't find a thread on it so I'm going ot ask and see what comes of it...
I have an 08 Heritage that I recently put V&H true duals on as well as a Mach II air cleaner & V&H Fuel Pak. My question is this; What would happen if I pulled the Fuel Pak off and just ran off the stock ECM? I have a buddy of mine that did this on his "07" Heritage & his bike seems to run better & his fuel mileage hasn't been effected. Is there any short or long term harm done to the bike if you try this? I know in the auto world, the computer self tunes itself to each modification that is made, why doesn't a bikes ECM do the same? It's still looking at the changes through the O2 sensors and other sensors and correcting what may be needed to run efficiently.
I disagree. My understanding is the O2 sensors are narrow band sensor and can't adapt to the big changes in fueling once the ac and pipes are changed. I may be wrong but on cars they typically use wide band sensors so it can adapt, but even then a lot of people put a tuner on to get the correct a/f ratio.
I'd say you should add a tuner, problem is most tuners like the power commander and fuel pack are just guessing at what you need unless you actually Dyno it and check the a/f ratio while doin it. So unless you dyno your guessing.
Agree or disagree, would it hurt anything to try it without any type of tuner to see how it runs? And, if it runs better without a Fuel Pak or tuner, then why add one?
