Had one and my wife was not pleased even with the addition of passenger floorboards. Sold it and have a Road King Classic on order. Try riding one before you commit.
05 Deluxe...touring pillion and backrest. Wife is happier without the stock seat , but I'm not sure if she would be for 6-7 hour rides. I love the deluxe but my trips are shorter like 2-3 hours and city cruising. It's perfect for that. I agree a detachable windshield is a must!
I would go for a RK Or Ultra if that is your plan to travel that long and far on a regular basis.
