I have a 1985 FXST. My neutral light won't come on so it wont turn over. The oil light is on and I know the battery is good. I changed the ignition switch thinking that was it...it wasn't. The neutral light will still not come on. Any advise would be GREATLY appreciated
First off welcome to the forum. 2nd is I would do the easiest thing that came immediately to mind and sit on her with the clutch held in and where you think it is in neutral, bike moves freely, and give it a try then. When all else fails go to the Evo forum on this site as it is full of experienced wrenches.

Neutral light has nothing to do with an 85 not turning over...wire is probably off the switch on the trans...they had a crappy connector. Those had a shovelhead starter, and the list is very long on what makes them not work. Start with a meter or test light and see if you are getting power to the solenoid when you push the button. If you are getting power it could be the solenoid or the starter. if you are not getting power, it could be the starter relay, or the switch on the handle bars, or the rats nest of quick connects under the seat, if it still has the factory wiring.
