Default headlight switch

i have an 08 bones and had 2 episodes when i inadvertently hit my high beam switch and it caused my headlight to go out. i checked the fuse and it was blown, replaced it and my low beam works fine. it seems when i hit my high beam it blows the fuse, and i haven't had a chance to check the switch yet. is this a sealed switch, or can i clean the contacts to see if corrosion is causing it? or is this probably a bad switch that needs replacement? the manual isn't much help other than replacement, so i'm thinking its a sealed switch. thanks in advance...

Your problem, more than likely, is a pinched and grounded wire. When you hit the high beam, it is making a direct short, blowing the fuse. Check the junction where your headlight wires goes through the headlight bucket and/or in the bucket itself. Or if your wires have been run internally (inside the bars) the opening where the wires comes in or out of the bars can be your trouble spot.

thanks, that was one thought i has as well, but was curious it the switch itself is able to be cleaned if corroded (if contacts are exposed). that seems to be the case, when i hit the high beam it blows the fuse. i plan on getting into the switch tomoro so i'll let ya know what comes of it.

Just another opinion...

It sounds like a short in the wiring and probably not the switch. I would check those locations already mentioned above. You could check for shorts with a test meter.
