Default Softail front end ?

Call me crazy, stupid, etc...

I have an 06 Springer Classic and I am considering going with a standard FL fat front end. I know there can and will be break issues, but is there anything I need to look out for? Could I take a 2000 Fatboy front end and bolt it on?

I guess the better questions is. Is a Softail frame a Softail frame? Is a 99 Fatboy the same frame as an 06 Springer Classic? I am only worried about the head angle, bearing sizes, rake..

Any help you guys can provide would be greatly appreciated..

Can't answer your questions but I have to ask..

Why?

I was looking real closely at changing over to a Heritage Springer a few months ago.

Just remember that not all softtail front ends are the same length.I.E., I believe the springer is 2" shorter than a softtail standards.Make sure to check, rake and wheel diameter may make a different models front end a different length.

its the same frame you can use it..the springer front end might be a little longer?but you bike will sit just fine.when i worked for the dealer we did it all the time..if we had a wreak and the customer wanted a different front end we just ordered it and put it on...all the cables and brake lines you might have to change....i have a 1984 shovelhead and put a 2004 softail front end on it..no troubles...good luck

You'll probably want to try and find a 00 and later front end. The 00 and later bikes have sealed bearings, and the 99 and earlier have tapered bearings, that need to be serviced (packed). The late model wheel(sealed bearing type), is not a bolt on deal on an earlier front end. You'll have spacer problems, not only with the wheel, but the brake rotor as well. It can be done, buthell, anything can be done with enough work. Like I said, a late model (00 and later)will be a lot less work. It's pretty much a bolt on deal.
