Default Handlebar bolts

Hello,

2005 heritage softail

The four bolts that hold the handlebars in place, that you can loosen to change the angle, does anyone know the Harley part number ?

Or does anyone happen to know the thread and pitch so I could pick up some spares at say ace hardware ?

Thanks

I believe they are 3/16 but not positive. I replaced with chrome from ACE hardware, just brought one in.

If you absolutely must have chrome bolts for this application, my advice (not that it's worth a damn...) would be to purchase the "overpriced" Harley Davidson chrome handlebar bolts as I would not trust my safety to over-the-counter bolts at the local hardware store. Especially when we're talking just a couple of dollars here. OEM hardware is Grade 8 and required, just read the bolt head of the originals for proof. It would simply suck to have the handlebars come off in your hands, whether riding down the road or even just pushing the bike around in the garage.

5/16-18 never had any problems with those bolts ever breaking, use hardware store chrome bolts all the time. My store does use quality chrome bolts though, yours may be different. the chances of four bolts breaking at the same time are about zero, in my opinion, and experience, (which is a whole lot!)

thanks guys , I don't care if they are chrome, but if OEM is grade 8, then I do care about that, I want to keep grade 8.

I'm going to adjust my handlebars this weekend, and since the "star" is starting to strip, from last time I moved them, I think I'll just replace them before its too late..

I bought an airhawk air pad to put over my Mustang seat, so now I sit higher, and feel a little cramped, so I want to try moving the bars back a ways .. I swear I already moved them back, I think the Indy shop might have moved them to stock when there were fiddleing around in there a few years back

Note, if you have aluminum risers be very careful not to over tighten
the bolts because they will strip easily. Use a magnet to check for
aluminum or steel risers, steel of course will be magnetic.
