Default Rear brake caliper

Little problem here. Just changed the rear brakes on my 06 NT. one of the pad pins is stripped and will not screw all the way in I have a feeling the threads on the caliper were screwed up from previous owner (any suggestions ) or am I looking at a new caliper and if so how much. By the way the caliper does come off without removing the rear tire.

The brake pins have grooves and only go in so far then they catch the brake pad. If you push up on the pads from the bottom you should be able to push the pin in. There is somesort of anti rattle clips inside the caliper that when replacing the pads you have to follow a procedure to get them back in.

So I assume you have already tried to screw the pins in without the pads. Maybe there is some chunk of crap or leftover locktite on the caliper threads not making it screw back in completely. I'd make sure the threads in the caliper were cleaned out with brake cleaner.
If you already done that then hmmm I'd try to retap the caliper threads to remove the burr.
As far as how much to replace the caliper, nothing on a harley is cheap to replace but where to find one I dunno, prolly Ebay or search out the classifieds in this forum and might get lucky and a fellow forum member swaped their brake caliper for another one.

You got me thinkin.... since I have to replace my pads and change the brake fluid since I cleaned the caliper pistons and stopped the scraping, maybe since the pins don't go all the way thru the back of the caliper. You coulda dropped some crap onto the hole inwhich the back of the pin sits. Tough to see back there but..who knows worth a try.
I loosened a lot of debris when I did mine, specially the rear and my whitewalls paid the price..what a mess.
Its crappy how something so simple can turn crappy so quickly really sucks.

Let us know how it works out for you. I hate it when someting that should be a easy quick job turns into a big project. I thought that stuff like that only happened to me.

I had a similar problem with mine only the bolt was seized. That's how I ended up with PM calipers.

For those who were interested, the threads inside the caliper were messed up. Dont ask me how that happened. I re- tapped the caliper all is fine.

That's good news. I look at these kind of issues as an opportunity to upgrade if the budget allows. My rear brake is starting to squeak a little and may need cleaning and pads. I'm hoping I can wait long enough to upgrade the caliper and pads.
