I am putting a lowering kit on a nighttrain, have done some reading and youtube. I end up bending the stock bolt and oval the shock eye and mushroom the bottom of the shocks. WTF?
Watching this stupid youtube video, do what it said, press on the shaft and bent it. I end up doing it my way, get a cone, press on the spring preload adjuster disc instead and it worked great, learned a lesson the hard way. I should make my own youtube video no kiddn'.
Another stupid thing I did, I adjusted the shock bolts the shortest and found the bike sits at the top. Another WTF? I totally forgot how the softail swing arm moves, making the rod longer actually lower the height of the bike. LMFAO!
I try to avoid any actual thinking when working on my bike, HA!
I pulled the shocks and took them and the lowering bolts to my local Indy. Ten minutes later he handed them back to me and I put them back on the bike. A lot less trouble for me than actually having to figure stuff out.
Sorry about your troubles. I used that same video last summer to do my lowering kit and loved it. Had no issues whatsoever but I will say, it was quite a pain in the but to do that job. Took me several hours but I loved the way the finished product looked. As far as the video, don't think I would have been able to do it without watching. Hope your problems get fixed easily and cheaply....
