I had the same decision to make. I first bought a sporty for both myself and my wife as we were both going to ride. Well my wife decided that she liked riding with me more than riding herself. I sold my sporty and bought a Heritage Classic. I did test ride a road king and it just was not setup for me. It seemed more top heavy like my sportster was. The Heritage just sat there with no effort to keep it up. To me it just feels more balanced.

I made the decision because most of my riding is around town and to me the RK was just not a round the town kind of bike. The Heritage is everything I wanted and more. Perfect bike for the riding I want to do. Its still a great bike for two up highway riding. Kept the wife's 1200 Low for when I want alittle more speed.

NW FXSTS,

I had thought about moving up to a RK, specifically the Classic, because it seemed like more of a touring bike. The guys at 66 have been great and Mike even said if I wanted to go with a straight touring bike I should look at the RK or the Electra, although they didn't have any Classics in stock. The Ultra would bemy choiceif all I was going to do was tour; I figured with the RK Classic I could add some detachables and still have a bike I could ride around Tulsa on, as well as a bike that my other half would feel comfortable on for extended trips (extended meaning multi-day trips -- up to two weeksand averaging about 200 to 300 miles a day). I want to make sure she is going to be comfortable because the last thing I want is to be out four days on a 10 day trip and have her complaining about her backside. But after reading all the posts about noise in the transmission on the '07's touring models,I am very hesitant about going in that direction. So I went with the Heritage (besides, momma likes the look of the Heritage). However, other than the trips to school every day, I will be riding on my own at least 75% of the time, so I wanted something for me to play on.

Hi, I'm new here as well and was browsing the posts for info relating to the Heritage Classic when I spotted this post....I could have written this myself as it's exactly what I am looking for.
I currently ride an 04 Kawasaki MEanstreak and I'm looking for something more 2 up friendly without being a full blown touring machine. Without a test ride I guess I will know nothing for certain but here in the frozen north thats not possible. So for now I will search for info and read lots. Appreciate your guys posts!

I went through the same thing when I bought the Heritage. I went from the RK to the Heritage and back. I'm glad I finally decided on the Heritage since most of my riding is local or day trips. if I was going to do mostly touring, maybe the RK would be better.

I also installed the mustache bar and haven't had any problem with the pads yet in 3000 miles.

I'm also satisfied with the stock seat.

If the Burgundy/Cream color had been available when I got mine, that's for sure what I would have gone with.

You're going to love which ever you get.

Jim
Could you please explain why you'd think the RK would be a better option for touring.
Day trips and weekend trips are mostly what I will do...but I'd love to be able to go for a couple of week long excursions...how would the Heritage do with 2 up in that type of riding?
Can you comment on passenger comfort on the Heritage at all?

On another note...what's the vibration like at hiway speed? Say 70 - 80 mph? I understand they are ridgid mounted engines?

I haven't ridden a Road King for any distance, but I would think the air suspension might give a better ride with easier adjustments available. The rubber mounted engine is said to be smoother at speed than the counter balanced rigid mount of the Softail. Like I said, I haven't ridden one to confirm this and probably won't since I'm happy with the Heritage.

I don't see any difference in vibration at speed on my Heritage than on my previous rubber mounted Low Rider.
