After putting some slipons on my 2012 FLSTFB, I've been told it needs to be Dyno'd. I didn't think it was necessary with just slipons but it backfires when downshifting and I know that's not right.
So my question is....is this procedure only done at dealerships or can my local Indy do it? I'm asking here to get an honest answer, I would expect the dealership to say only they can do it.
If you are going to blow the money on a Dyno then you might as well get your money worth and install a full system, intake and tuner. Other than that it's just a waste of money hitting the Dyno with just a set of slipons. I would try a set of these http://sales.nightrider.com/FL-ViED-10_p_12.html before I went to a Dyno because they are about 1/3rd the cost.

I don't want to blow any money if I don't have to! I'm new to all this and honestly, I'm not even sure exactly what all the Dyno is supposed to do or when you need it done. Just going by what one of the Edge class instructors told hubby. Yeah....they work for the dealership, that's why I asked in the first place!
With just the addition of slipons there is no need for a dyno tune. Even with a full system. If you add a better breathing intake and exhaust then you would need a tune to compensate for the added air flow. More air flow needs more fuel flow. With just the addition of the Vied most any late model HD will run better.
Tell the stealership to fix the problem of backfiring because it should not backfire with just slipons. If they insist you need a dyno, tell them to do it on there tab. They are just trying to get more money from you on something you don't need. Make sure that bike is running top notch while still under warranty. Good luck...
For just Slip On Mufflers you dont need to get it Dyno Tuned. If you add a Hi Flow Air Filter as well then your into the Stage 1 and it will run better with a tune.
There are many options out there search "Stage One" and then make your decision or save your self some time and call Jamie or Keith at Fuel Moto and ask them. They can get you set up and are fair and honest shop, also a Forum Sponsor. They will explain all of your options and help you make a good decision.
If you decide to go with a Dyno Tune ask other riders in your area who is the best tuner. In my experience its not always the Dealer.
You should not need to Dyno for a set of slipons. Is it backfiring or popping?
More of a popping on decel. I just didn't know how to describe it.
@Xaran...thanks for the info, I search stage 1's to try and understand all this. I never thought wanting my bike to sound like a Harley instead of a sewing machine would lead to so much!
