Default Softail rider again....

The one thing I didn't like about getting my Street Glide in 2010 was giving up my Nighttrain.

Well, as much as I love my beast of a SG, I've been missing having a simple, no-frills cruiser and this weekend I saw something at my local dealership that I just couldn't pass up:

A 1999 Springer. NO rust, only 5020 miles. Thing is IMMACULATE!
Has a Mikuni carb, and not sure but I suspect a cam upgrade as well.
I was amazed at how fast it is.

.

It had a windshield and aux lights but those came off as soon as I got home (anyone want them?)

Not happy with the bars.....too close together and I prefer the horizontal grip position.
So I have a pair of Bad Boy bars on order.

The Springer "Custom" was the bike I fell in love with back in the 80's that totally made me a full-fledged Harley guy. The NT took over as my most-desired bike, but the Springer has always had a special place...and when I saw that one, it all came flooding back. I tossed an offer at them that I fully expected them to reject, but they actually said "For Chuck & Kathy, sure!" (It pays to be in good with the dealership some times.)

That's not just a softail, that's a Springer!

Very nice indeed! Welcome to the club!

I'm assuming this was cheap so you just grabbed it and kept the the SG?

List price was $8500...."Tent Sale" price was $8000.

I told "our" sales guy (bought 4 new bikes from him since Sept of 08) "Tell Terry $7500 out the door and I'll take it right now."

I fully expected Terry (sales manager) to say no, but he literally looked over and went "Who? Him? Hell, for Chuck & Kathy, sure thing."

At that point, no reason to say no.

Nice! I know the sales manager at my local dealer too, but I doubt I'd get off that well trying that. Lol

I'm still surprised they went for it, too.
Wife was all texting "You're killing me over here!" while I was doing it, but when she got home from work and saw how nice it is and that they went for the $7500 offer, she didn't blame me for going for it, either.
(I love the MrsGru...even more so now that she's turned in to a rider herself)

Future plans: Like I said, bars gotta go....

Rear wheel: too high, got lowering kit on order.

Turn signals: UGH, ugly-*** things GOT to go. Not sure if I'll get small bullets or just take them off & be done with them.

Decorative trim: derby, timing and air filter covers...and mirrors...all have the gold flames on them. Not ugly, but not my style, so replacing them all with the stock plain bits I've got laying around.
Mirrors will be replaced with Tribal ones I've got & I plan on getting Tribal grips & pegs as well.

Once I have the Bad Boy bars on, I'll probably take off the backrest & fender rack. Not sure yet, will decide when I see how it all looks.

Oh, I have a cat-eye tail light on order as well. Classic "brick" is just too bulky looking.

Pipes: Not sure yet. I pulled the baffles out so it sounds great. But I'm not a big fan of the ugly crossover pipe. Might get a set of drag pipes. Not sure on that, either.

Thanks all...loving it so far.
Though I'm actually taking the SG out tonight, just because I don't want it getting jealous.

(Anyone who says bikes aren't like women is a liar)

Need to put a bolt in the center of that air cleaner! How about relocating the coil. Very nice find! Not big on the flame seat but to each there own. Wouldnt have been a deal breaker! I love them springers!
