Default Easy cam question, I think

I've read a ton of good stuff about cams here and I don't want to start another huge debate, BUT:

I have a '06 Heritage FLST with Stage one. I'm satisfied with the power, but yes, yes, yes I still want more low to mid-range torque, like pretty much every other Harley soldier here. BUT, I also want more top-end. I got the 88-inch TC on mine, the last year before they bumped it to 95".

I do a fair amount of interstate driving, and feel like at 75-80 mph, she's stretching it a bit. I'd like to cruise the slab at that speed and feel like she's purring. As it is, the sweet spot is anywhere between 68-72 depending on conditions.

My Indy mechanic says bolt-on cams won't do much for that. Anybody got any experience or knowledge that might help?

I don't really have a hard figure, but I'll spend what's necessary. I just don't want to get into the heads and serious engine work at this point...

Andrews TW37b cams, the Screamin' Eagle gold cam plate kit, and a new set of push rods. No head work required, just a PC-III USB (or your choice of tuner). You'll LOVE the results. My '06 really woke up after these mods...

I have Andrews 21's and a 2n1 with a Dobeck DFO in a 88". Cheap azz build. You are more then welcome to ride it to disprove any misinformation.

Our 06 has the worst stock cams due to meeting EPA and running open loop, no o2 sensors.

But, our 06's have the same heads as 07+ ,96", bikes and work very well with bolt in cams.

Sounds more like you want an extra gear, rather than a cam. A good cam will give your top gear a little longer legs, but if you really want it to purr instead of scream at 75-80, a 6-speed transmission will do a better job than a cam will. Put in a a Baker 6-speed, then worry about a cam, imo.

+1... or you can change sprockets and put in a lower range torgue cam to make up for the fact that you will be slower out of the hole but lower rpm's at cruise from the sprocket.

I hear many say that because a Harley has torque everyone wants to run them at too low an rpm. Is it the rpm or the vibration that you are reacting to? I have the same tendency and still want a baker 6 speed. Not all 6 speeds have overdrive, btw.

First U have to learn U can have it all...
they don't make a bolt in cam thats made to really shine in the low - mid - high rpms
U'll have to settle for low-mid or mid-high..

Only way to lower the sweet spot is a gear or tranny change.

He's right,, cams, BB kits, pipes, HC pistons or any other work U do to Ur motor won't lower the rpm's or change the Sweet spot..

About any cam U put in with a Intake close of 35 will increase Ur Low-Mid TQ, which is what most of us want.. More power in the 2000 to 4500 rpm range

Here's a link where U can see the spec of most of the cams make.
http://www.bigboyzcycles.com/tccams.htm.

Just to show U, here's the diff of my Stock Sheet, vs the stg1 and Cams Sheet.

Notice at 5200 rpms that though a lot better than stock the HP and TQ start falling off around 4500 rpm's..

That because the 26's are a low - mid cam..

..
