I've read a ton of good stuff about cams here and I don't want to start another huge debate, BUT:
I have a '06 Heritage FLST with Stage one. I'm satisfied with the power, but yes, yes, yes I still want more low to mid-range torque, like pretty much every other Harley soldier here. BUT, I also want more top-end. I got the 88-inch TC on mine, the last year before they bumped it to 95".
I do a fair amount of interstate driving, and feel like at 75-80 mph, she's stretching it a bit. I'd like to cruise the slab at that speed and feel like she's purring. As it is, the sweet spot is anywhere between 68-72 depending on conditions.
My Indy mechanic says bolt-on cams won't do much for that. Anybody got any experience or knowledge that might help?
Andrews TW37b cams, the Screamin' Eagle gold cam plate kit, and a new set of push rods. No head work required, just a PC-III USB (or your choice of tuner). You'll LOVE the results. My '06 really woke up after these mods...
Sounds more like you want an extra gear, rather than a cam. A good cam will give your top gear a little longer legs, but if you really want it to purr instead of scream at 75-80, a 6-speed transmission will do a better job than a cam will. Put in a a Baker 6-speed, then worry about a cam, imo.

+1... or you can change sprockets and put in a lower range torgue cam to make up for the fact that you will be slower out of the hole but lower rpm's at cruise from the sprocket.
I hear many say that because a Harley has torque everyone wants to run them at too low an rpm. Is it the rpm or the vibration that you are reacting to? I have the same tendency and still want a baker 6 speed. Not all 6 speeds have overdrive, btw.

First U have to learn U can have it all...
they don't make a bolt in cam thats made to really shine in the low - mid - high rpms
U'll have to settle for low-mid or mid-high..

Only way to lower the sweet spot is a gear or tranny change.

He's right,, cams, BB kits, pipes, HC pistons or any other work U do to Ur motor won't lower the rpm's or change the Sweet spot..
About any cam U put in with a Intake close of 35 will increase Ur Low-Mid TQ, which is what most of us want.. More power in the 2000 to 4500 rpm range
