I bought my Train used and it also had the Short Shots already installed. They do sound good and they are simply loud as **** when I hammer on the bike.
I'm changing it up however. Just ordered the D&D Low Cat in black. It's a 2 into 1 pipe because I'm looking for better performance. I did the 95 big bore kit this past spring and everyone says a 2 into 1 will make it feel like a totally different bike. I almost picked up a V and H pro pipe HO that I saw on craigslist but it was chrome. I wanted black and as you said...everyone has V and H it seems so I wanted something different...
Have had a set of V&H Big Shots on my 07' Fat Boy from the get and I will continue to buy their product. Great fit and design as well as a kck *** sound
Vance & Hines sound good and perform as good as can be hoped for. A stage I upgrade makes a noticeable difference in the performance of a big twin. I just put a whole exhaust system on my 2012 FLHTK. Vance & Hines Dresser Duals and dual slash cans plus high flow air cleaner. Made a nice ride even nicer.
The V&H are a nice pipe, sort of a Wal-Mart kind of thing to me though. Decent pipe and relatively inexpensive compared to others, and on every shelf in America..
I don't care for them because they is a set on every single HD out there, and I hate to be the same as everyone else parked at the curb.
I originally bought a set of Big Radius, but after seeing 1,000,000 sets, I switched to Rinehart Cross Backs.
The Rineharts sound a lot better too.
See alot of the Big Radius here on the forum, but to be honest I don't see them here in town that much. Have to admit that I only see a handful of Harleys in any given day, but only see the Big Radius occasionally. To me, they look like they were made for the bike, or the bike was made for them. I live in a "granola" kind of area, and I think the Big Radius have that "organic" look to them. Wow, I seem to have bridged into a spiritual analysis of my pipes.
I've put V/H on both my bikes & everywhere I go I get major compliments on the sound & since getting big shot longs the look as well.
Bottom line is their a major upgrade over stock without breaking the bank.
I have Phythons on my 2003 Heritage Softail and love the sounds, Little did I know the V&H bought em out or what not. Now knowing this I would recommend Python or v&H
My Heritage had the V&H BSS's on it when I bought it. There was another Heritage there for sale too, same year, bought the same mileage, but stock pipes. The V&H's made the difference.
I'd had V&H StraightShots on my Sportster so I already knew about the quality and sound.
If I ever switched to a touring bike, I'd go with Rineharts True Duals though. I like them on a bagger.
