That is a totally reasonable response - to each their own. You have plenty of options to choose from, but keep in mind that even if the bike didn't roll out of the factory the way you want it, the aftermarket options are incredible.
If you ride enough Harleys, you'll find one that "fits" you. The Slim and Blackline do sound like what you're looking for. Find a demo day and ride the hell out of as many bikes as you can...
Thanks guys! I'll definitely have to give the dealer a call and find a demo day. Would you think that considering what I'm looking for that softail is the right family as opposed to Dyna? I love the looks of the street bob and the super glide, but I'm concerned that for longer trips they may not be very comfortable.
Lots of guys on here, myself included, have taken Dynas on extended trips with no issue; although you may need more modifications such as a different seat, backrest, sissy bar, luggage rack, etc.
Any Harley at your dealership is suitable to take on a "haul"; it's just that some are obviously designed for that and some will require more mods for comfort and gear storage. That'd be your call...
Good luck bud.
I rode Dynas when I first got in to Harleys. I rode a Wide Glide, 2 up, no windshield with a T-bag down the Pacific Coast Highway from WA into CA, out to Yellowstone and back from WA, through NV and No Cal. Was it the most comfortable? No, but I did it and loved every mile. Many of my fondest riding memories were on the Wide Glide. I loved that bike. I think the new ones look like crap though. Long trips are definitely doable on them.

+1
It's whatever makes you think "YES!" whenever you look a it. Adjusting for
your preferences is all part of it, and part of the Harley virus!!
