I have decided on a set of Vance and Hines exhaust for my 2010 Heritage.
How do the different types sound compared to one another, especially the slip mufflers compared to a full exhaustr??

YouTube is your friend then. Lots and lots of videos out there. Just search the various models you are looking for and go from there.

Went from slip-ons to full & the sound is louder & beefier & as a bonus got more performance to boot.
Bike really turns heads when i get on it.
Plus they look soooooo much better slip-ons look cheep to me.

I have V&H slip ons that were on the bike when I bought it from the first owner. I put the stock back on, too quiet. I put the V&H back on. They are a little louder but not so much as to wake the neighbors at 6am when I leave for work.

Honestly the best answer is that they all sound a little different.

V&H's have a sound almost of there own vs most other pipes.

I agree with this.

Also, there was another post referring to youtube and listening to lots of different pipes. I tried that as well but the sound quality was all over the place and I wouldn't make a decision based on what you can hear there. The same pipe sounded quite a bit different from video to video. The best venue for me was attending a bike rally (Sturgis) where several of the pipe OEMs show up with a variety of Harleys with pipes mounted up.

Sound: This is an impossible answer to get from anyone. Too many variables here to say one set of pipes sounds a certain way, which is better than another brand. This includes YouTube. Take the exact same set of pipes on the same year and model bike, and they'll sound differently if there has been any type of engine modification, including Stage 1 intake. Find a set of pipes with the look you want and go with that.
