Default Andrews 48 on the way...

So after lots of reading, I decided to pull the trigger on some 48's. I hope it works out. I miss the pull of the 255's and these are basically a non-epa version, so they should be just what I need. I also figure since I'm running problem free right now and my ccp is only slightly lower then it was with the 255's (I now have rs575 and a +4 cam gear) this cam shouldn't cause problems, with of course the removal of the +4 cam gear. Wish me luck, I'd hate to have to go shopping for cam #4, but I'm picky enough that I wouldn't rule it out. I'm on the fence about a 2-1 exhaust to go with them.

I'm confused, do you have timers on your cams and you HAVE TO, change them when the clock runs out? Why are you changing?

LOL You'd almost think that. No, and I hope these are my last. I liked the 255's but I was having some compression trouble with them, plus they ran out pretty quick, cam 2 was the redshift 575's, but they have no torque down low. I'm pretty confident that the 48's will give me the low end, hang in there for a few hundred more rpm and drop a few pounds ccp from the 255's. I'll sell the two other sets to pay for the third, so I'm not to worried about the couple hundred buck. My main reason for even trying the 575's was because I got them for near nothing and they're not all that hard to change.

I'm going with those 48's soon too on my Train. Keep us posted on your experience with them.

Will do. They should be in the bike Tuesday night if I have time. I've heard great things about them. Anyone interested in a gently used set of Redshift 575's?

Its been a really good Saga,, following his threads as I have, its been interesting to say the least.

I really think that jla could help a lot of others now..

I spent several months picking out my cams back in 09 and now after 6 yrs of reading and I am still learning every day,, that there is no one magic cam out there..
U just need to not over cam Ur bike for Ur needs and wants.. This is one lesson the jla has learned.. The hard way.. with his checkbook..

Now JLA I still haven't seen the CCP for the 48's,, I am sorry but I really don't remember if U did CR's in Ur heads...
If not I really think U should, just in case the 48's are still around the 210 area..

I found this in another forum..

103" With 48H
Corrected Compression 10.4:1
Cold Cranking Compression 215.6@ SL
A.T. B Boyz calc
From this link......

Start prob?

I don't remember if U have a 103,, but still with the CCP it could cause some pinging...
Which I am sure U don't want to go through that again....

I will say that cam will be a lot better the 575 that come on around 3500.

Hope they work out for Ya.. I have read that there are a lot of others that love them.....

Good luck...
oct1949...

Added this after looking some more and thinking about them....--- I really don't think U notice much difference in the low end TQ with the 48's,, but I do think U'll see that they hang in longer and not so much total drop off vs the 255's.......

Keep us up on ur results...

Thanks. I do have a 103 and I have the auto cr's for starting. I hope the new cams work out, and yes, I've paid, but been lucky that way. I have a guy that works with me on the bike for very little $$ and he sold me the 575's for near half price. I'm gonna part with my old cams, so that will pay for the 48's because I got a deal on them too. They won't be in until monday, and maybe not installed until tuesday, but I'll let you know what the ccp is after the instal. I've actually learned a lot through everything, and also got a lot better with the wrench doing a lot of the work myself. I never knew until lately what goes into building a motor, and how exhaust, a/c, cams, heads, valves, gearing... all come together. For any of you guys starting out, don't think that just because something get good reviews, that you can just bolt it on and it will work for you. Also, like my exhaust, just because something looks good, doesn't mean it is good. You sometimes have to decide between show and go!

I run my short exaust cause it looks good, yes a 2-1 would get better numbers butlooks are just as important as power. Just don't like the way a 2-1 looks or sounds

48's are in. A few short rides and I have a pretty good idea of what they can do. Almost as much low end torque as the SE255's, but hang in there a little longer. makes 6th gear very usable and overall I find I'm shifting a lot less. Hit about 3500rpm and come on to her and you can still have a little fun, but not making much power after 4500. Very good cam, no pinging, a little less fun then the 575 that I just took out, but for 75% of my driving I couldn't be happier. I might just keep this one for a while, lol.
