I came to the Heritage from a Sporty, so the seat is much more comfortable to me. As for the pillion, the first thing my wife said when she sat on it was "Wow!"
I know there's some great aftermarket seats out there, but I love my stock seat so much that I'd be to scared to change it. I can run a 1000+ km (600+ miles) a day without a sore butt.
As U can plainly see the Difference in the rear seat throughout the yrs.
the 04 is more upright and higher than the 07's (07's for sure worst of the three) and the 12's pillion looks even more upright in the front than the 04..
So I'd think the 12's should be ever better as far as feeling/having it for back support.. But I've haven't ridden one.
What I did was, After I got the wife the touring pillion seat, Sissy Bar pad and floorboards for her comfort, I took the stock 07 pillion which really sucked anyway and cut it down narrower and made it 8'' tall for me to use when I ride solo.. it really made a big difference for my back comfort with riding alone. I even added studs to it just to match the bags for looks. See it in my sig..
very happy with my stock 2012 seat, rode for about 2 hours last weekend with no butt ache and managed to get off without any pain, unlike the Sportster which had me in pain within 20 minutes.
I have a '10 Heritage and the BEST mod so far has been adding the Mustang Touring Seat to the bike. Stock seat is fine and if you've never had a mustang you won't miss it. But once you've had it you'll love it.
