Time to sell 99 train?
Havn`t been ridin to much this year cause I have lead poisoning real bad. It`s deep in my bones from all the years cuttin up bridges and stuff. Losin the feelin in my hands and I can`t feel my left foot no more. Just got got word from the dr. this mornin about some tests and the damage is just beginin.. and can not be reversed. I`m bummin today but I wonder if a bagger of some type would be easier on my hands with less vibration. My wife said I should sell the train and build a trike but not sure I could be happy rollin on three....not sure what I should do...anybody have similar problems with hands and feet?
My sympathies on your condition. I broke my neck and back, damn near ripped off my left leg and other assorted booboos when I had my disagreement with some Somalians and they had explosives. I don't have the same problem as you but my hands on occasion basically "fall asleep" when I torque my neck a bit. Luckily it is just one side or the other. And due to nerve damage I have lost some grip strength in my right hand.
I altered my throttle grip a bit to make up for it and it helps me grip it better.
Anyhow, you have to do whatever is best for you everyone is different even with the same injury. I help counsel vets with spinal injuries as sort of a big brother type thing and some folks frankly just give up. I know folks with similar problems that I have, that just sit on the couch all day collecting SSI and other disability. I can't do that so I still work 14 hour days, still run every morning even though it isn't pretty with my reconstructed left knee and hip.
I push myself very hard still travel abroad to nasty places and it is a decision I have made.
My entire point is that YOU have to on your own do some thinking and figure out what is best for you. Take your wife's counsel but it has to be your decision. Don't let her become the fall guy so to speak.
Sometimes you have to give up that which you hold dear and that is all part of being an adult. And conversely, sometimes you have to kick yourself in the *** daily to get going and keep going. The choice is yours.

Not to be an ***, but the last thing I would believe is a doctor telling me that what is wrong with me can't be reversed unless there was undeniable (and confirmed) proof and multiple agreeing professionals.
That being said, hope everything works out for you and things do get better.

Thanks RR and rooster, ya, got alot of thinkin to do I suppose, Just lookin for options that may help. Love ridin with the wife on back or even next to her when shes on her frankentrike i put together for her. Just have to wait and see. Maybe I`ll give it through the winter and revisit it in the spring. No hurry I suppose, I`m feelin a little more relaxed about it tonight than this mornin. And your right RR where there is a will there is a way. Thanks for the reality check
Hey, Torch! Sorry to hear about your illness. I would definitely at least give it until next spring & see how it goes. Bikers don't give up THAT easily! Unless you really need the cash, hang on to the 'train & see how your condition developes.
ya I think ur right, don`t need the cash so I can wait, it just kinda hitin me all at once, just gotta knuckle up like RR sayin and push til can`t. Maybe move up to somthin with a little less vibration then maybe even a trike, for my wife it`s a safty thing with her on the back, and cause I can no longer feel my feet she may be right. I can probably build a pretty bad *** trike for my self, so there are options. thanks for the advice Gypsy
That is scary------I've done alot of demolition.
You could always put a trike kit on that NT. Whatever though, good luck to you.

You ask if a bagger would be better for your hands,
and I think it would because of the cruise control you
would not have to grip the bars so tight. also from what
I've heard the soft tails vibrate less at idle but the
faster the RPM the more vibrations. The un balanced
engines vibrates more at idle but the faster the RPM
the less vibrations. This is only what I have heard from
others, but I could not comfirm because I've not riden a
soft tail more than one to three miles or so, and not very
fast eather.

I would be really concerned about not being able to feel my feet and riding a two wheeler myself. I have some pretty bad numbness in my left leg from my days with Uncle Sam. I've often thought if it ever got so bad that I couldn't control or hold up my Fatboy, that a bad-*** 3 wheeler would be the way to go myself. Gotta keep it in the wind! Good luck!

My '05 Train is the one bike that I regret selling. I always had problems with my hands going numb because of the position of the drag bars. Would've changed 'em, but I just loved the look & feel of drag bars, so I dealt with it. My Fatboy is the easiest bike I have ever ridden; maybe you should test ride one. Or, consider lowering the bike & changing out the bars.
