Default Used Deluxe buying advice

I am looking at 2 used Softail Deluxes. One is a 2010 with 15k miles, moderate mods, pipes, seat, bags, shield, etc. The other is a 2009 with 30k miles, swing arm and forks chromed, pipes, shield, etc.

Both basic black and similar in most ways aside from year and mileage. 2010 is about 500 more than the 2009 with double the miles.

Question is should I be concerned with the mileage of the 2009? Is the newer model with less mileage preferred?

I love the chrome and other nice touches of the 2009, but is the 2010 the better way to go....

Thanks...

Anyway to check maintenance records? I'd rather have 30K with good maintenance than 15 with minimal maintenance.

If they were both maintained I'd pay the extra $500 for the 2010.

Thanks for the advice. I will ask about the maintenance on both bikes.

I personally would lean toward the 09 with 15,000 miles. 30,000 miles is a lot for a 2010 IMO.

You don't mention the asking price on these bikes. But, for your reference, I paid 12,900 for my 07 this past January from an HD dealer. It only had 3,400 miles on it. It is PERFECT and it came with new tires, an HD windshield, some minor accessories, some dealer swag, a fresh fluid change and a 90 day warranty.

You will love the Deluxe.

Good luck.

Mike

Given the same maintenance on both, I would agree with this post. I don't know for sure but I'd suspect there isn't much different between the bikes. Both have a 96 and 6 speed.

the 2010 with 15k miles is listed for 15500 at the HD dealer.

The 2009 with 30k is listed for 15000 at same dealer.

There is a 3rd Deluxe, 2008 with 16k miles for 15000.

Sounds like the best advice is pointing toward the 2010. Just hate the stupid signature series seat with backrest. Thing looks huge on the bike....but then again, its all about customization.

Thanks

If its the same dealer TELL them to switch the seats between the 09 and 10 and take at least the $500 off too. When I was looking at 2 used bikes at a dealer they said they would switch the pipes between the two if I'd make the deal.

You can talk them down a lot of that price for a used bike. I got mine new with 7 miles on it for $16K.

Also remember that the add ons aren't worth anything and they didnt pay extra to get them

Awesome idea about switching seats, I never would have thought of such a simple solution. And I will be much more aggressive with price negotiation. If you can get 3k off a new bike, I am sure I can get these down also. Thanks.
