Default Not another Cam question!

I've done some looking around on the subject and I know there are a lot of threads on Cams as well that I've read. But I'm looking for for rider's opinions who've gone the route I'm contemplating. I own a 2002 Heritage Softail Classic. It's carburated, rejetted, free-flowing intake, V&H Bigshot longs and a set of SE203 cams. I like these cams a lot, but having just returned from a multi-day two-up camping trip pulling a trailer I found these cams not quite suited for that kind of riding. These cams kick in around 2,500 -2,600 RPMS by the seat of my pants method. I had trouble with hills if I hit them doing less than 60mph. I'm looking for cams which provide a little lower end umph. Something that kicks in around 2,300 RPMs or so. I found that when I was able to hit a hill at 60mph I could pull all the way through the climb because I was in the SE203 sweet spot. I'm just looking to replace the 203's, and not do additional upgrades or engine work. Any plug n play recommendations base on experience?
Thanks, Pete

21's would pull sooner, maybe more over all, but to be honest, not worth the time and money imo. Id spend the money on a 2n1 instead. It will add low to mid tq for ya. I went from VH bss with the x power chamber to a 2n1 and the 2n1 made a noticeable sop improvement. Or, I'd spend the money on a 95" kit.

Thanks for the response. That certainly is an option; I'm just not crazy about the look of 2 into 1's.

The cams you have are really not that bad for what you're after. The fix all would be a big bore and be done with it. The old adage is "there's no replacement for displacement" applies here. Head work is always a bonus as well. Big Boyz is the best bang for the buck on a budget when it comes to head porting. Bean is a friend of mine and you will be happy with the results if you do go with a big bore and head work.

Thanks for the recommendation. I'm trying to avoid jugs and top end work if I can. I know that would make the biggest difference, but for now I'm just looking for a better bolt-in cam for my style of riding.

Given the pipes I would suggest and +4 degree offset. It is short money and it will move your torque curve down the rpm range by 200 or 300.

I realize youre not into a 2n1, it will be closer to what want you want more then changing to another bolt in cam. Take a look again at 2n1's. It cant hurt DD Fatcat for FLSTC is nice as its longer then the other DD pipes for softails and gives a sleeker look to the bike kinda like your pipes. Check this out:

SE 255s are made for just what you are after. Woods is making a torque cam now too. It's called the 222. Fuel moto is testing them right now. Shoot em a message

Neither of these cams will work in a 2002.

Ur BSL's are hurting U more than Ur needing new cams IMO..

Look at some of the dyno's of the longs and U'll see why.

I'll put in sheets of 2 of my Sons bikes that he used to own with 2 different V&H's pipes that are exactly the same (cams, AC, Sert, dyno at the same place by same tuner) other than the pipes, The sheets will show U the diff the pipes can make.

Sons 09 NT with 204's and BSL's

Sons 07 Duece with same 204's cam and BR's 2-2s
Also notice that the TQ and HP numbers is not the same on both sides of the t sheet,, have to come in from the right side of the page to see TQ numbers..

And just for the heck of it I even put in my Cam only 96'er with stock header and Rush slip-on that I installed Andrew 26's which is close to the SE 203's.

As U see even with the stock headers mine makes 83 # of TQ above 2250 rpms.

That's why IMO U'll should see a Big difference in the 2000 -3000 rpms just with a pipe change.. instead of cams.

.

.

point is the BSL's make 70# TQ at 2500rpms.
And the BR's 2-2 made right at 87# of TQ at 2500 rpms..

U wont find any (cams only) istall that will make up that.
