Default Help! engine mileage question

Looking at buying 2005 heritage with stock tc88 motor. Bike has 37,500 miles fuel injected, stage 1 with harley tuner. As far as I know no motor work just regular maintenance. Like to know your thoughts on mechanic issues if any of this bike. More interested in engine than value based on price and add ons which in this case both are very good. Thanks

I've read that you should check the cam chain tensioner for wear on anything older than '07' but that's about it. My brother just sold an '06' Heritage with 40,000 miles on it and never had an issue.

Check the tensioners, better yet replace them and sleep better. Cam bearings have been known to let go. I wouldn't worry about 37k on the clock, especially a bike that hasn't been molested. Any time you can buy a used bike that hasn't been screwed with you will be better off. If the price is right buy it. There's a few knowledgable Harley guys here that can help if you run into a jam.

Mine just turned 39 k on her and I think she's running better and stronger than ever.
So far I only had to do, Brakes, tires, filter and gas line inside the tank and 1 battery.
Three new head lights, 1 passing light and 1 turn signal bulbs.

On the 88's the tennsioners are the big issue, if they haven't been replace I've heard even the dealers offer about $1k less on trade ins.

Either way just make SURE they get checked/replaced if Ur not SURE that they've been changed out.

Other than the tensioners i wouldn't worry about the bike...if you buy it and want to keep the bike for a long time consider putting gear drives on the cams...depending on how much you ride per year...Upgraded Cam tensioners would last a long time also...

If the bike was well maintained, and the price is right don't let the mileage scare you. But so true on tentioners have them checked out. I have an 06 NT bought it with 23000 on it I did replace the tentioners at 26000 on it and rear bearings cost me 850 once opened up the tentioners were In great shape could have went another 8000 or so. Harleys are strong bikes if taken care of. Good luck

I'm sorry forgot to mention it was 850 to replace the tentioners with the hydrolic ones.
