Well called Samson --after waiting a week for them to respond. Looks like they are considering offering mesomething but not necessarily a fix. They are about 70 miles from me so maybe I can get them to actually take a look.
Thinkingof going over to the local chopper shop and seeing what they can do for me.
Also going to get another seat and reform it so that the shaved area stays.I'm confident I can do the workwhich would be fun. I like my seat but I think the shaved area is contributing to allowing the heat to come up to my leg.
Looking at the pic of your bike I'm assuming it's the left side thats causing the problem. Looks like the design would expose your leg to alot of heat. Is there a heat shield on the pipe where its so close to your leg? What about some kind of insulating wrap at that point with a shield designed to fit over it. Sorry, just thinking outloud so to speak. Good luck, I hope Samson does somethingto fix the problem for you.
The pipes do have heat shields there...I have the same setup. The problem is that there is full exhaust coming through that pipe and the shields don't do enough of blocking the heat. I'm thinking of wrapping mine then putting the shields back on.

Been thinking about that myself and talked to the Samson tech about it but he agreed the heat shields are awful tight and the wrap might not fit. You will need a full 1/8 inch to wrap them (wrap is 1/16" overlapped).
I thought I was crazy since no one else said they have the problem....glad to hear I'm not the only one. I was considering getting another seat, because I had had mine shaved, in case it was the modifications.
I have an idea besides the wrap but it would be a customization and might take a bit more. I'm gonna go over to the custom chopper place this weekend and see what they say... They have some equipment that the local Harley indy doesn't have.

Have you considered ceramic coating? They can coat the inside as well... should do better than wrap and would be much thinner.
I was thinking of having my stock pipes done while I was waiting for the slip ons and other parts to come in over the winter and sent an e-mail to Jet Hot. I was told that they always do both the inside and out, and quoted me $190 for both pipes + shipping.
I haven't done it, yet, but its still on the list of thingsto get done.

Definately an Idea I was just reading about how much the temp will change. According to an off road site the saw temp drop upto 110 degrees from header pipes.
Wonder if there is a local place to have them done...This being L.A. there should be.

Check thier web site, they might have a listing of a local place. The nearest place to me is down inPA, but you might have better luck out on the left coast.
They have a free estimate section, and if you put you info in they will tell you where to take or send the pipes, and how much it will be.
