About 5 times in the last couple weeks I started a warmed up ride and the Idle was at 1500-1650 . I shut down and restart, all seems ok , till it does it again. Any ideas ?
2012 Deluxe, 4500,mi. VXIED's .
Not the kind of problem thats easily identifiable . There is probably no chance of it happening at the dealer . I used to own an automotive repair business and remember all the people that had problems the they could never get to happen when at my shop . Now I feel bad for some of the comments made after they left . Oh, Rush 1 7/5" and Big Sucker .

Tuning..... mine did the same thing when she was new back in 07.. Some times she'd Idle so low she'd die also..
Probably 20 times in the first 1000 miles... then at the 1K I did the Stg1 (pipes and SE A/C with SERT tuner and a Dyno..
She's never done it since then..
Also may just be the Xied,, did she do it before U install it????
Ohhh whats a Rush 1 7/5in.. hope U meant 1 1/2in
I put the Vxied's on right after I got . It just started doing this a few weeks ago . I also put in some expensive NGK Iridium spark plugs recently .
I dont know what a 1 7/5 " is either . I meant 1 3/4 " or 1.75 " sorry .
.
I just took out the new pulgs ,will see if that helps .
Good choice on the 1 3/4'' baffles, I went with 2'' cause I knew I would be doing cams..
Hope it is just the new plugs,, some time when we try to make things better,, we just end up complicating them.
I have read in here that some other have tried better wires and plugs and their bike doesn't run good at all.
I have bought some SE wires but I still haven't put them on yet.. The wrench I trust did say the new SE plug are a little better than stock,, but he made sure I heard LITTLE.. and I think there about $18 a pop..
So I also went ahead and got the standard plugs I'll install when I put the new wires on.

Yeah, I know what you mean about making things worse . I'll try it out tommorrow and hope for the best . Why did I get rid of my perfectly good 2006 Road king with CARBURATOR ??

After reading 6 pages of different threads on this issue,(search) .I took out the over priced plugs and rode the Cherohala Skyway today . I stopped a bunch of times . I carefully made sure I waited for Idle to go down and used the ignition switch to turn off . I had 0 problems . I have always used the kill switch but a lot of people with similar problems advise not to . Who knows ? Maybe it's OK . I really dont want go to dealer .

I had a 2006 FLHPI that had idle issues like you describe. My idle would sometimes spike and hold at as much as 2K rpms and sometimes drop so low that I'd have to throttle up to keep it from stalling. A dealer tried to blame the Power Commander III and wanted to replace it with an SERT for over $800. In my case (2x) it turned out to be the IAC (idle air controller). The 1st time at around 25-30K miles I just replaced the IAC. The part is fairly inexpensive; at that time less than $10. It took me a long time in labor though. Not being a mechanic didn't help either. My biggest problem was not being able to buy Harley's intake manifold tool. They wouldn't sell me the tool and the so called "alternate tools" didn't work out so well; for me anyway. I wound up making a tool to get at the back retaining screw; I cut down an Allen key to fit under the support bars. Anyway... That was the 1st time. The 2nd time I was able to fix the problem by spraying electronic sensor cleaner onto the IAC from inside the throttle body. I wiped out the goo, repeated the process and put everything back together. That was at 52K miles. I haven't had a problem since. I'm at 55K.

If you can modify tools for the job at hand, you might be better than most "mechanics".
