Interesting that you are thinking of a stereo bag given your new setup. Which, looks good. I just got this Boss amp they recently came out with for $55 on Amazon. Its MOSFET so it handles 2 ohm loads and is small enough to fit in my shield bag that is 11"x 3 1/2"x5 1/2" along with marine grade Polk Speakers.
The 4" Polks will fit easily and look good. I could also go with 5 1/4" that sound a hecka lot better but may look funny because they will take up almost the entire outside area of the bag. Sound quality over looks I guess. With your experience of sound and wind noise, what do you think?
Not thinking about a stereo bag, just more like a speaker bag. I like your idea of 5.25" speakers in a bag with room for my camera & spare glasses (clear for night riding). I'll check out the Boss amp, but I am truly smitten with the Kicker's controller!
Sound quality over looks for sure, but you have to factor in the housings. The enclosed 4" speakers might actually sound better than the 5.25" mounted in a bag. Either way, depending on your set-up (windshield, pipes, the different speakers listed above) the difference between them fidelity wise is probably lost. So I say go with which ever floats your boat looks wise.
BTW, I dig your picture and have been searching for some sort of mural/backdrop to get a killer picture of my bike similar to yours!
Just installed some 16" Wild1 Chubby's. This gave me more room for the speakers at the base of the bars and allowed room to move the controller off the riser bracket. Looks a lot cleaner now IMHO. What do you think?
Update:
Rode 375 miles today and have to say I am extremely impressed and happy with this system. I put my Nostalgia windshield on and was able to enjoy my music during the entire ride. Cruising over Wolf Creek Pass at 65-70 while listening to Kashmir by Led Zep was magic! Especially when I hit the "back" button to start the track over again about halfway down the pass. Beautiful day, epic ride, great friends along, perfect moment in time on the bike with that song becoming a living soundtrack! I can only imagine how great this system will be with the right (2 ohm) speakers.
So, with the windshield on, I was able to hear about 90% of the songs/words/music running mostly 65-75 all day long.
Yes and no... the are pretty clear, have zero low end though, and because they are 4 ohm (KICKER unit puts out 2 ohms), not as loud as I would like to turn them up sometimes. KICKER will be releasing their speakers made to go with this unit soon & I can't wait!
Searching for a way to mount some Boss Audio and amp to a 2012 Deluxe with mini apes. Seems like your photos are gone. Any way to see the shots again? Thanks
