I sold my 2005 Dyna Super Glide a few months ago, and am ready to buy another buy. I found an 05 Night Train on CL, but I don't know anything about these bikes.
Is this a good bike? Good year? Are these carbs or FI? 34mm forks? Parts hard to find? What years were these made? Smaller engines than todays HD's? ETC....thanks.!
You can tell that bike is a carb as it has a petcock on it. So it is carbeurated which would be my choice. Yup, 41mm forks on all softails. Coem with a 21x2.15" front and 16x3" rear wheel. The newer trains, 06 and up came with the 200mm rear tire if that makes a difference to you.
I have an 05 night train and love it. Mine is EFI with the 88 TC. Most of today's Harley's use the 103's. I believe the 07 and up Trains have the 96, maybe 06 too but not quite sure. Parts are definitely not hard to find. I believe 09 was last year of the Train ( RIP / sad ). If you like the blacked out look, this is an excellent choice of bike. That price don't seem to bad either.
Best year for the Train, but I might be biased! As was said, carb was standard, EFI was an option, 41mm forks, and the 88" aint bad. I had some cams and head work done, and it runs pretty good to me, better than any stock 96"! It's a fun bike, they stand out at bike nights, and they are collectors items now. Seems like a decent price too.
Only real issues were the cam chain tensioner shoes and the select few 05 softies that got the bad valve seals. My seals were replaced under warranty at around 18k miles which is when I had the engine work done. My cam chain tensioners have never been replaced and they still look brand new, so that's a crap shoot as well. Some got bad chains and others did not. Other than that, 50k headache free miles on her so far! Good luck, and keep us posted!
Humm...just noticed on the picture, the tank has a dent. I'm guessing he dropped it when he forgot to put down his kick-stand. Hopefully it was not dropped too hard or major accident??
