Had a great ride home - about 40 miles - I took the long way....
Stopped for a pic or two on the way.
Got home, unbolted the 'bars to get the bike up the alley - realised that stock bars couldn't be cut enough to fit the gap - see the pic to get an idea of the problem.
So, Sportster bars going on. Just waiting for the service manual to arrive so I can get the tank off, disconnect the right wires, unthread from the bars, reattach, reconnect etc etc...
So, to sum up, the bike's home and it's already in bits!!

PS The Cat approves....
PPS Would it be a good idea to put a quick-release coupling in the balance pipe under the tank?
Thoughts, anyone?
the stock bars will be 'neither use nor ornament' (an old saying of my Mums', that).
You see, my first brainwave was to cut 1 1/4" off the ends & elongate the wiring slots. I didn't realise that this could spoil the set-up of the throttle - the slot allowed the lower housing to pinch up on the twistgrip when bolted up.
And they were still too wide!!
