If it matters to you, K&Ns don't do a very good job of stopping dirt. In independent tests, they were horrible compared to standard paper-type filters.
I only use them when there's no room for something else. The latest Screaming Eagle dry type is supposed to be pretty good, and I'm told they've solved the problems with the earlier ones falling apart.
It's interesting to hold a K&N up to the light, and see all the holes and gaps in it.
THANKS GUYS. EVEN GOT A BETTER PRICE. WENT TO ADVANCED AUTO PARTS ON LINE. GOT NOWHERE SAID HD0800 WAS NOT RIGHT ONE, GO TO STORE FOR HELP, SO I DID, THE GUY WENT SO FAR AS TO GO ON LINE WITH HIS SMART PHONE, FOUND IT WAS THE RIGHT ONE, AND EVEN GAVE ME THE 15% ON LINE DISCOUNT. GOT IT FOR $46.00 THANKS TO EVERYONE. RUSS

Would it be possible to have you send me the link to the independent tests? I ask because the testing that we have performed says otherwise; you can see our test results here: http://www.knfilters.com/dynocharts/HD-0800.pdf
Also another thing to consider is that Harley Davidson has us make their Screaming Eagle Upgrade filter; this can be verified by searching Harley's website parts area for Screaming Eagle Air filters; they obviously filter well enough for Harley Davidson.

No way and oil and gauze paper out filters a synthetic paper media and is the K&N in the SE catalog for race use only. BTW I use a K&N.

Thank you for using our filter, but I'm a bit confused by your response. Our filters are not an "oil and gauze paper" type filter; they are a multi-layered oiled cotton gauze. And I was not saying our filter out filters synthetic media; just that our filter does a great job of filtering. I do not have any test numbers on the synthetic media Harley uses, So I cannot compare them. If I had the tests for Harley's other media, that would be something to see...
Also the K&N filters are not race only. If you check out any of our filters on Harley's site (again these are Harley Davidson filters), here are the links to Harley's site: Here and Here
All of them say "K&N filters provide excellent filtration", and that is from Harley; here is the entire clip from Harley Davidson:
[quote]
K&N replacement air filters are engineered to improve airflow for increased horsepower and quicker acceleration. K&N filters provide excellent filtration, and because they are washable and reusable, you can clean the filter whenever conditions demand. Designed as direct replacements for specified fitments.

I would be interested in seeing the "independent" test results too. I know at least some of the filters sold by the MOCO are actually K&N. Not certain if it's just the SE upgraded ones or some of the stock ones too. The cleaning directions in the service manual for mine lead me to believe it had one right from the factory since they are the same as what I have seen for all of the K&N filters I've used on rock crawlers.
