So my 2013 slim with 500 miles on it was saying i was in LOW RANGE of gas, I had a full tank. So i take it to the dealer, they said its 3 different codes that it is showing up. One code said my taillights where out but they all worked. So I leave it at the dealer and I get a call today that the BCM module is shot and it needs a new one. Will take them a week to get it and replace it. WTF, its a new bike...is any one else have this problem? They asked if I have had any wires replaced or changed....like did you replace the wires for the handle bars...AWWW those are stock handlebars, thanks for knowing your models buddy.. Im pissed cause I had so much planned for this weekend and riding, I dont have the kids so I could get away, BUT NOOOOO, the bike isnt working...sorry for the rant
Sorry to hear that. In the IT world it is called crib death (not the greatest term). You typically see a higher failure rate during the first few weeks of operation, but once you get past that time period, the parts that make it (the vast majority) will live a long life.
1..Dealer put in new BCM, all codes went away, They said the reason the codes got tripped was because I installed the smoke cleans cover kit with lights. So they are claiming that this bike cant have aftermarket lights installed on them, cause it will destroy the BCM. All I did was install a factory part that Harley sold me for this bike.
2. So after waiting 2hrs at the dealer, they came to me and said, Now you have no brake lights what so ever and we cant figure it out what so ever. Im like the brake lights werent the problem last time, and you just installed a new BCM...So now they said they have to contact Harley engineers and get them involved cause they dont know what, how, and where to go from here...just great..
3..has any one with the slim replaced the rear or front lights to an LED light set up? If so how did you do it?
Sorry, I don't have answers for you, but maybe a little advice for future reference. While that bike is under warranty, I wouldn't do any mods to it. Not yourself or done by an indy. If you want any mods done, have them done by the dealer. They love to find any justification to void warranty work. Motor work and electronic mods are their best issues to point the blame at.
That's what really sucks about their warranty, they got you by the nads. When I bought mine new they really tried to push the extended warranty on me. I just told them no thanks, that I couldn't wait for the factory warranty to run out so I could start making the bike my own.
Any minor mods I did under warranty were either done by HD, or basic enough to un-do prior to bringing it in for service.
