I purchased a Fatboy 2 weeks ago and am also researching pipes. I put a set of loud shorty slip ons on my last bike, a Triumph, and found that after about an hour the noise became irritating. So this time around I'm looking for something more on the mellow side. I like the sound of the supertrapp supermegs, but don't like the look of the 2 into 1, nor do I want a full system.
Fatboy Phil, my suggestion is to consider if the loud pipes will become annoying on longer rides. Also, if anyone has a set of louder than stock mellow slip on pipes they like please let me know.
***EDIT***
By the the way, congrats on the new bike Phil!
I have the SE slip-ons, they do sound nice, not too loud, but loud enuf that you can hear them, only problem is rear end maintenance, but no different than stock mufflers, you need to remove the mufflers to change the rear tire, or adjust the drive belt.
Next time you change the rear tire just put the axle bolt in from the other side. No more pulling exhaust.
Ya, I got that advise already, it's a great idea, and I more than likely will do it, but you still can't get a wrench in to the adjuster, at least I can't see how.
The best research tool I know of for exhaust options is youtube. Type in your bike and exhaust or mufflers. You will get great sound clips and close up shots of every type of exhaust system available.
I put RUSH slip ons on my 2011, they have 3 different baffels depending on how loud you like it. I went with the middle ones and they are quite loud. I love the deep sound they produce but I will change pipes again in the future. The problem with Fatboy factory headers is the passenger pegs are set between the pipes. I put floorboards on for my wife but the heat of the pipe above the floorboard is extreme on a long ride. Her leg will be chard red by the end of the day. If you have a pasenger spend the extra to get complete set that routes both pipes under the rear pegs.
I started with the stocks ,of course.. but they just didnt get it done for sound...went to Rush slip-ons....loved the sound ,but girlfriend still melting boot on top pipe...went to V @ H propipe 2-1 chrome...love it..love it...love it...added stage 1 SE air and the tune and first stoplight I left hammered the throttle and thought I was gonna wheelie..couldnt believe the torque increase....best $ spent yet ...deep melllow tone on cruise but will "talk' when you hammer it...very satisfied

Love the look of your pipes. They don't sound crazy loud on your video. How do they sound in person? I'm thinking about the V&H or Supertrapp supermegs. I am looking for a deeper sound at idle but nothing too crazy on throttle up.
would recommend these to anyone..especially if trying to lose the shotguns( burned passenger boot) my video does not do them justice...nice rumble and loud enough...very very happy camper
