So I was lookin at the oil tank and I am thinkin it should match the gas tank and rear fender. I like the black but when you are bored and sippin some beers....**** happens. So I rip the oil tank out, which is a huge pain in the *** if you ever did one. I took it to the sand blaster and told him I wanted a raw steel look. He said the blast may or may not take off the chrome under the paint. So I took it home and took the angle grinder to it. I know it looks a bit shiney now, but I am pretty sure I got the chrome off. A few days and it should dull out and get a little surface rust. A wipe down with the oil rag and it should match the gas tank and rear fender nicely!!!
I did use a flap wheel on it also. Not too concerned about the marks on the tank. Sorta goes with the rat theme. I just wanted to make sure I got down to the steel.
I here ya on the front end. I cant fall into the trap of tryin to make this thing look good. Thats not the point of the bike and I think we can all agree it aint gonna happen anyway!!!
I did take some scotch brite to front valve cover. Cant really get at it though. Cant get at the back one at all. Would have to pull em off the motor to get em good, we'll see.
Got rid of the big ugly stock air cleaner. Searched ebay for a few days and found this stack set up. It was half the price of the others. Cycle Kraft brand, quailty parts. Has a screen and foam filter. Looks of the stack with the protection of a filter. I love it. Test spin tomorrow.
Really opens up the side of the motor and shows that great v-twin.
