Default Another Chrome Front End Question

I own a 2003 Fatboy that I bought new. I have yet to chrome the front end but have been wanting to since I got the bike.

I went to the local dealer today to try to beat the January 31st deadline for the "Leave the elbow grease to us" promotion where you get $100 off the service price of certain installations, including the chrome front end kit.

The guy in the service department said that thispromotion was at the dealer's discretion and that they ended their promotion December 31st. However, he did offer me $100 off of the chrome front end kit. So, I took him up on the offer.

Now, my question is, should I try doing the installation myself? I've read many of theposts regarding the ease or difficulty of this task,I'm just trying to figure out if I should undertake it or not.

I'm not the greatest mechanic byany means. I do the fluid changes andreplace the brake pads when necessary but that's about the extent of my experience. I'd love to do more but I just don't want to get in over my head.

Just thought I'd see if anyone had a suggestion one way or the other.

Thanks.

I did it on my '03 fatboy. Hardest part is getting the bolt out of the bottom of the forks. If you can get that done, everything else is fairly simple. If you have a service manual, you're set. You'll have to pull the tank to replace the fork tin. Why they didn't put a snapin plug on the light I have no idea.

It's an easy job. The first time I ever swapped fork legs, it took me about6 hours. Now, I can do a set in about 2. If you run into a problem, I'd be glad to walk you thru it over the phone.

You have to pull the tank???? That just seems like something you shouldn't have to do....

I do have the manual and will be reading it more closely over the next couple of days before I decide to attempt myself or not.

Thank you for the replies. IfI decide todoit,I just might take youup onthe offerxxxflhrci!

The reason you hve to pull the tank is to disconnect the headlight wiring harness. It is really not difficult. Just read the manual. The easiest way to seat the new seals is to get a two inch diameter piece of PVC tubing Its a couple millimeters small so you have to cut a slit in it from top to bottom. you only need a piece about 18 inches long.

As mentioned above. When I did mine it took about 5 hours or so. Did my friends in about 2 hours.

When you pull the tank, you may as well change the throttle cables to chrome or stainless also.
