Default Fatboy Chrome front end install question.

Hey guys I have a question. I bought a Chrome front end for my 06 Fatty tonight. I want to put it on this weekend. I bought the complete fork tubes with the Chrome lowers allready assembled and full of oil so all I have to do is drop the old tubes and replace with the new ones.

Anything I should be on the look out for?

I am going to get a service manual and a lift on Tuesday, also have to pick up a few other chrome do dads to finish it off right.

Any advice from those in the know would be great.

Thanks

It's a pretty easy job. Once you get the tins and wheel off it's just a matter of loosening the pinch bolts and removing the fork cap bolts and they should come right out. If you can swing it, now would be the perfect time to change the tree tins and upper slider covers to chrome if it hasn't already been done. Have fun and we need pictures when it's done.

Sanford - thanks for the info. I will provide pics and the front end will be chrome from the bars down. I scored a deal on the fork tubes, slider covers and tree covers as well as a new seat. Just have to pick up the chrome hardware to mount the fender, brake caliper, etc.

Wish I sould do the bars, switch housings, switches and cables/wires but I guess I have to leave something for the mod bug to chew on.

Another thing you may or may not want to do is check the steering head bearings. Depending on the mileage, check for wear.....you will feel sort of a detent at the mid point of the rotation where the roller bearings themselves have dented the outer race. If your getting or already have the factory service manual just follow what they say for the service procedure.

biz44 - thanks for the advice on the steering head bearing, I think I am okay as my bike has 2500 miles on it, but I will check it anyway.
