Chrome forks
if you have the service manual for your bike, then it's not really too big of a deal. with my bike i just took it to harley and let them do it. if you ever damage a fork seal when you're putting it back together, you'll understand why. for me, it's just because i'm lazy and had enough money to get them to do it.
Some dealers have chrome front end sales in the winter to keep biz going for both them and their service dept of up to 50% off, some on this site have said, of which would puts you OTD w/a new chrome front end @$400.
My dealership only wants to do 15% off though, of which is still cost a little over $700,
which I think is about 2 hundred too high.. for me anyway.
I said that I would let the dealer do mine for $500 parts and labor included
but they say around $700 so I say I guess that it ain't gonna happen w/them anyway.
Fak em'.

You will also need a pneumatic wrench to break the bottom bolt loose, at least I found it a lot easier than having to drill it out. Have done both my touring bikes and had no problems. Just take your time and follow the tips you'll find on this forum. Shop manual will be very helpful.
Its not that hard at all. One you have no fairing to deal with, if you have a service manuel take off your forks the take them to a shop have them swap lowers and replace the oil. Will save you lots of money.
