Default $250 Chrome front end.

Dropped off my scoot at my local dealer for some 15k love and a small warranty issue. While the service guy was checking my bike in, he asked "Doesn't that corriosion on your front forks drive you nuts?" Hell yeah it does. He offered to replace the forks for $250 bucks!

Apparently, HD has a ONE time corrision replacement on ONE component. He explained that Harley would give me a $150.99 credit for each fork leg, which I could use towards a chrome front end kit. I'd have to pay for the chrome cowbells and the extra labor to install em.

Total? $243 bucks and some change. I'll be picking her up Thursday freshly service AND with a bit more chrome!

Nice! I had mine replaced for $220! They were replacing the legs under warranty but had no stock ones in stock. He asked if I wanted to upgrade to chrome and I said of course. Since they had the front end apart under warranty there was no labor charges. I just had to pay for parts. The manager threw in a set of chrome cow bells for free! Out the door price with discounts and HOG bucks was $220! Can't beat that with a stick!

"Apparently, HD has a ONE time corrision replacement on ONE component."

The OP lives in a relatively corrosive enviroment something like 25 miles from the Atlantic Ocean and the MoCo's paying.

That's cool but surprising.

I'm sure it had something to do with the dealer. But a lot of dealers just don't know how to play the warranty game.

A good warranty manager can make all the differances in the world. I was a warranty manager at a marine dealership and I wrote 50 to 60 k a month in warranty and it was a small dealership. Also, the manufactures love it. You see warranty repairs is considered a loss and can be claimed as a loss on there taxes.

With a good warranty manager the tech are trained to look for the Easy Money warranty jobs and since most tech's are flat rate the more flat rate hours turned the bigger the bonus at the end of the month. Flat rate manual is usually what everthing is gauged by. A job that takes 30 min to complete will have a flat rate time of a hour. It usually takes less time to do a job than the flat rate manual calls for.

Some dealer due take it one step to far and do what is know as double dip. usually what happens is the dealer with cover the parts under warranty but tell the customer the labor isn't covered, they charge the customer for the labor and then file for everything under warranty.

There's is big money in warranty repairs, two year std warranty plus extended service contracts can cover a bike up to six years.

True, about 37 miles from the nearest beach. The rest of my scoot is immaculate. Not sure if that had anything to do with it. Any dealer SHOULD do it for ya. Money in their pocket, and a happy customer. Win-win situation.
