Default Camshafts

2012 Fatboy Lo w/ SE Ventilator, K&N filter, SE slip-ons, soon to be V&H Big Radius 2 into 2, SE Stage 1 tuner. Thinking about changing my cam, I want better low end torque, don't usually rev hell out of the bike, not necessary, but I would like a bit more grunt to pass, especially 2 up. I looked at the SE catalog and the SE255 looks real good, it just doesn't say if it'll work with the EFI bikes, they seem to have other cams with an "E" suffix for the EFI bikes, but the torque numbers aren't nearly as impressive. Anyone have any suggestions?

S&S EASY START 570, I put mine in about 4000mi ago and like it alot. Good lo end and really kicks in around 2600rpm. This is my first Harley, so I really can't compare to much, but the ease of starting and the difference from stock is night and day. I was torn between the SE204 and the SE255 till I read about the Easy Starts.

Thanx for that, I'll have a look at those S&S cams. How do you like the Michelins?

Just another idea to consider. Scroll down to the 575 cams.

I've also heard good things about Andrews cams.

Very different cams here. The easy start cams are generally used in high compression engines. Easy starts is a normal compression engine is not necessary at all.

Got about 1100mi on the Michelins, They work. We'll see on the milage. Before the S&S Cams, I'd have some what I'd call missed starts where the starter wouldn't work real well, now the motor turns a split second longer before start and never miss starts.

Thanx again, I've been told that the Michelins give great mileage, I know it will depend on your driving style. Looking a bit more at tires, I have only found V rated tires of the correct size for the Lo, I'm guessing that they have a softer compound than an H rated tire, not quite sure why they would put a tire rated at 148mph on a Fatboy, they won't go any where near that, in stock form, and to get to that speed you would need to change your sprockets and have in excess of 110hp, don't see that happening any time soon.

If U have 93 oct gas then the 255's will be OK, if U can only get 91 oct gas then U may want to look at a lower CR.. could be trouble with pinging.

Also take a look at the Andews 21's and 26's.. both are a big improvement over the stockers and have really great street manners.

Ya, 91 is the highest available here, so thanx for the heads up on that, although I was under the impression that compression and ign timing had more to do with detonation than cam timing, time for more research. Food for thought, gotta luv it.
