Update: After retune, bike is still throwing codes, apparently on items that my bike doesn't even have. They are thinking an ECM issue, and are going to try and install a "blank" ECM to see if that corrects the issue. The dealership is saying the ECM should be covered under warranty.
I asked if the warranty will cover the cost of the retune and dyno, they said no. My point is that the retune and dyno wasn't needed if it wasn't for the problems with the ECM in the first place.
I've contacted the MOCO; they don't support usage of the dyno, and can't speculate on anything further until the dealership is able to determine the cause of the malfunction.
I feel a hot, burning sensation beginning in my ***...
First Ur ECM "IS" covered under warranty, Not should be.
Second U din't say what tuner U have,, If its a SEPST all they have to do is re-enter Ur settings,, not do a whole tune again. And if it is, IMO if Ur dealer don't belly up and take care of it I wouldn't be happy with them.
My dealer re-dyno-tuned my bike twice when they installed the pipes wrong and had air leaks... Both on their dime..
First Ur ECM "IS" covered under warranty, Not should be. I used their terminology, not mine.
Second U din't say what tuner U have,, If its a SEPST all they have to do is re-enter Ur settings,, not do a whole tune again. My Indy performed the original tune when he installed the SEPST. He didn't have time to look at it, and when pressed, all he wanted to do was change the fuel pressure regulator. The dealer was willing and did communicate with the indy on the tune. It is my understanding, using their terminology again, they did try to re-enter the settings. This is when they felt the bike was not responding appropriately, so they started over with their own base map and progressed from there. The bike is still showing codes that should not be there. Thus their thinking an ECM issue. And if it is, IMO if Ur dealer don't belly up and take care of it I wouldn't be happy with them. I have clearly expressed my unhappiness. That's why I called the MOCO.

Glad everything worked out so well for you. I'm sure you can imagine my frustration. I don't claim to be an expert, I'm just tryin' to get my bike fixed...
That burning sensation is "normal..." when dealing with HD...there are good dealers out there but few and far between from my direct experience and they are stuck between HD and the CUSTOMER...after your "warranty" expires find a good idept. mechanic and NEVER give them 5 cents again...The burning sensation is replaced with a BIG smile on your face!!! Third party extended warranty...you got to be kidding...not on my dime.
Now the dealership is telling me that the diagnostics are indicating that they need to verify the cam timing, as they suspect the cams may be a tooth off.
I'm so ******' frustrated...
How about U putting in more info about Ur bike.
Like how many miles U put on her before having this problem.?
When did U add SEPST and do the first dyno?,
Have U added cams and who did the install and when??
One would think that the timing issue with the cams should have been found when They first dynoed the bike unless the cam where added afterwards without a retune.
I know it has to frustrating for U.. My cousin had a 10 trike that after going to two dealers they finally put him in a new ECM.. yep, his org was bad.
Thanks for keeping us posted on what going on..
Hope they get this figured out fast and easy on U..
The bike has just shy of 10k on her. I put the cams and SEPST on last May, just before my trip out to Tennessee. The indy that installed the cams and ignition did the dyno after the install. He made two runs, I witnessed them both (guess I should clarify that I was sitting a safe distance away observing)...
I started having issues roughly 3 weeks ago or so, when the bike started WOT....
I would have thought that a cam timing issue would have shown up long before now, as it's been running flawlessly until recently.
Visited the dealership this afternoon. The cam timing is right on the money. What made them suspect was my compression was 105# they said. Next step was to gather latest notes and call the Factory; but we're not going to tell them about your after-market cams, air filter, pipes, etc., because they aren't HD. I'm like "Whut?" He said yeah, sometimes they'll black ball you if they know you're not runnin' genuine HD. I said, you know y'all can't do that legally, right? That's when I decided it was time for a little sit-down.
In a meeting for about 30 minutes or so with the service writer, manager and the manager; they went over everything they've done so far. He said they have way too much time invested into it to ever charge me. The service manager said he's about ready to sacrifice a donor bike to just start changing out parts to see what works. So far they've tried a different fuel pressure regulator and different sensors, nothing has worked.
good to hear they are still working with U and Ur bike..
Its true that some dealers say the warranty goes south when changes are made. Most will deny warranty if they didn't do the motor mods.
Some dealers will still stand behind Ur motor if they do all the work, but some don't even do that any more. But as U said, they have to prove that the mods U've had done caused the problem.
Cam timing was spot on. They mentioned that cylinder compression pressure was 105#; I pointed out that the shop manual says a minimum of 125# is normal. For some reason they don't seem too concerned with that as they say the bike runs quite well on the street and dyno.
Latest thing they're checking is my bars; they're tearing into them and exposing the wires. According to the service writer, there are two wires that must by wrapped around each other and insulated together. They think the wires may be seperated inside the bars, causing the erroneous codes.
I will mention though, this is day 23 of the 30 days required in Oklahoma to apply the "Lemon Law"...
