Default Cam questions

So I've decided I need a cam swap. My bike falls on its face at 105 mph (never really go that fast though) and I feel like I've lost a ton of low end torque, my brother on his 05 ultra classic hangs with me off the line now since I installed my Samson 33" baffled long tails. I am running SE stage 1 cleaner and a powervisions with canned map for true duals.

So I have 2 questions.

1st, suggestions on a cam choice to get the low end torque back since I usually cruise around at about 2000 rpm and rarely hit 4000 before shifting. Most of my riding is done in city type driving so consider that.

2nd question will the cam bearing puller and press work on both motors? Trying to subsidize the cost of the tools buy splitting them as long as they work on both motors, which I think they will as both are twin cams.

Thanks

SE255, Andrews48 are two that I have experience with. They have good low end, but fall of around 4000rpm. Woods has a new one, T222 maybe? don't quote me... But, in my opinion, cruising at 2000 is a little low. Pretty hard to find a cam that will pull in that range. I have the 48 in now and can run down there, but it really has no power until I get up a little higher, and I don't make a habit of staying at 2000 very long. Just my 2 cents...

Your 103 will like you a lot better if you keep the rpms up a bit, they are a little higher rpm engines than the 96,95 and 88.

I like the Se 204 and jamie at FM has some good dyno charts up from the new Woods 222. They are recommending them as a great bolt in cam for the 103.

ive had good luck with the SE204 in my 95 and have friends with them in the 103 so that was my cam of choice but Im going to keep looking at the feedback from the 222 and may go with them

I'll look into those 222s, I've read some good stuff about them and the 48s in the 103.

I run 2200-2500 usually cruising in 4th but maybe I should drop into 3rd a little more. It def comes alive at about 3500 or so. It just kinda feels lurchey on lower gears/higher rpms which is why I like cruising in the lower 2000s

That could mean that you need to adjust your AFR for the problem RPM ranges.

You definately have a tuning issue, sounds like there are a few more ponies on the table.

In your original post, you start out talking about wanting more power at 105, but then say what you really want is more city drivability. It's going to be pretty hard too match both of those wants with just a cam change.

Any of the cams mentioned- SE255, TW48, T222- will supply all of the low end grunt and lower rpm drivability you are after. Ditch the habit of trying to roll on at 2k rpm though. There's just nothing there.

Nothing in my engine is stock but I run and LOVE my SE211 cam. It might serve you best to talk to the guy who is going to do your dyno work once your new cam has been changed and all the work completed. Good luck and let us know what you went with and how your bike runs compared to before you got the cam and dyno.

The samsons are not helping..... Great pipe, great sound, but you lose performance.
