I would chrome the front end. If you did go with the black front end, I would leave the handle bars chrome and black out the pipes. Would have to balance out the black look. I like a blacked out bike just as much as chrome, but usually the front end looks better chrome to me.
On your bike.. Chrome. I've seen a few blacked out front ends.. You would not be happy with it. I've seen it on one bike only that I liked.. Was a black fatboy with blacked out engine covers ala night train look.. And blacked out cast centers in his fatboy wheels. Had actual rivets going through the holes around the outside of the wheels. Since all the bike was basically blacked, the black front end matched well... I've seen on bikes with cast or chrome/black engine setups.. looked like socks on a rooster to me.. ie, like crap.
Once a bike has gone down the path of chrome, as ours have.. There's only one direction you can go unless you want to take off ALL the chrome.. To me, Chrome is either an ALL or NONE thing.. Same with black.. I'd never put any chrome on a night train if I could help it. But to me the two don't mix.. I'm not even a big fan of the black engine with the chrome covers.. I think the chrome would do much nicer on the silver/cast engine setup.. or polished like the customs.
My dream of a perfect fatboy.. All scotch-brited parts in the same finish.. ala exile cycles. I think even on a relatively stock fatboy, that would look great.. Even just a cast engine (like the SE's) and covers.
I've seen front ends where they tried to do the cast/wrinkle style paint/finish like on the engine/tranny, which looked absolutely terrible. After looking at some with a shiny polished black powdercoat.. That looks 1000 times better, to me.. That would be the ONLY route I'd consider for a blacked front end.. That would make me consider it. Same shiney finish like your engine guard. That might actually look pretty cool.
I love your bike and agree to the others saying almost all black or stay with chrome.
The only two things I would change at your bike are replacing
1) the diamond plate parts (foot pegsetc.) by classic (black) ones
and
2) the chrome oil tank by a gloss black one (like 05 later Springer Classic).
