First check your install for air leaks. And correct tighten of bolts.
The little bit leaner mixture should not cause poping at this point.
You did not say it you had changed exhaust.
If you have already changed exhaust and then did the heavy breather you need some fuel.
You do not need a dyno tune or anything real fancy but you need some fuel at hat point.
I don't have a torque wrench, is it bad that I used my calibrated elbow when tightening the screws and bolts?! I did the install according to the directions that came with the heavy breather...but alas no torque wrench

Actually it is a lot leaner with the SE Breather installed. A basic Stage 1 download would have been done if the dealer was installing the breather. The OP did the install and still has the stock fuel (lean) setup. This will produce the deceleration pop and/or ping.
Dyno is not needed at this point but a properly mapped tuner is the way to go.
I put the same intake on my bike. Same issues but I knew that was gonna happen. Need to tune the bikes ecu to get it to run right. I personally am going to go with dyno jet's power vision for its ease of use. Runs around $550. Can change maps as much as you want and it does a bunch of other stuff. Gonna be putting pipes on as well and the power vision is easy to get a map for all of the vance and hines pipes. Then again others will tell you to use the power commander or some other tuner.
Power Vision. Not a piggy-back tuner...it flash tunes your bike while you ride. Can be found for quite a bit less than $500.00 WITH free shipping if you search. (no...not Flea-bay)

I have the Fuelpak for 3 years now and I think it works great. No reprogramming to be done, just send them an E-mail with proposed changes and they'll give you the new code.
My lo ran like absolute crap when installed the heavy breather. When my tuner put it on the dyno the bike was so lean it was amazing i hadnt burn a hole through the pistons. The heavy breather is almost the equivalent of just running a open throttle body with no filter at all. A dyno tune was a must for my bike
Is your bike carburated?? Mine is and after 2 tunes still never ran good at all
