I have a 2012 Heritage and for ever thought i'd want to go with the beach bars becasue I love the look. I was in San Diego recently and wend to the local HDD where they had a demo bike that you can change out the bars and seats and stuff. The bike happened to be a Heritage also which was cool! I threw on some beach bars and to my surprise found them a little uncomfortable. I was almost lurching forward and felt it in my lower back. The employee sugested I try some ape's. I was a little reluctant as i've never considered them before and thought them to be even more uncomfortable. Was I ever wrong!! Very comfortable. Now that i'm back in Canada and cant find a dealer with a demo bike like that around here, my question is regarding the height of the ape's. I've ordered the Freight Train Nacelle which I had to use a 2" riser with but haven't installed it yet. I believe the stock bars are 10" and I'm 5' 6" with a 32" inseam. Do you think stock bars ( I think 10" ) with the 2" rise thats coming for the Nacelle, would be a good height for me? If I dont have to buy new bars that would be great but I definitely am starting to love the look of the Heritage with the apes on it.
I've been to the San Diego dealer...Did you see the planes pass over head? Pretty sick when you land too......Anyway about your bars....What size were the one's you tried at the SD dealer?......Rule of thumb is stay just even to below your shoulders.....So sit on the bike reach out and have some one mesure to the riser....Thats your bar length...If I had to guess or suggest, I'd say 14's ...Best you find a dealer and try a set or two..
I'm pretty sure the nacelle called for a different riser with my bike. Thought it was 1.9" rise but could be wrong. THe parts guy sounded like he knoew what he was talking about. If not he'll have to get the right one.
I just looked at a picture of me riding my bike and it looks like the position of my arms are just about straight out. Maybe and inch or 2 max below my shoulder, so when the riser goes on that's supposed to come with the Nacelle, ya think it would put my arms just about at shoulder height?
