Hey I bought my first softail a few months ago 2001 standard. love the looks of the bike but hate the lean angle. everytime I lean hard into the turn I scrape the primary cover. Hit it pretty hard today. Now before you go in say that it ant a sport bike. I know but i ridden dyna's and a roadking that had alot more lean angle than this. I don't think this bike has been lowerd either. Do any of you guys hit your primary cover? Not that big of a deal around town but my friends will eat me alive in the mountains.
I've owned only Heritages since I began riding HD in 1988. Guess I just love the look. Most Heritage owners scrape the footboards on both sides if leaning too much. That's probably why the footboard frame is stainless steel and not chrome.

I've scraped the boards plenty of times in tight turns, but never ever the primary cover. Are you sure it isn't lowered either in front, back or both?
I have foot pegs. and 150/80/16 tire on back. It don't look any loward than the other softails I seen but is something I need to check thanks for responding
What kind of bikes are your friends riding? If you're trying to keep up with sport bikes, good luck. But I agree with others above, check to make sure it hasn't been lowered. I can get pretty aggressive and haven't scraped the primary.
Couldn't keep up with my friends either on my Deluxe. So I added a Ninja to the stable a few years ago. Yes, it will run circles around my Deluxe or any Harley for that matter, but I still prefer my Harley.

They ride cruisers and goldwings. no sports bikes. I could actually out run most on my wideglides and roadking. Now I just take the rear of the pack and they wait on me at the top of the hill. I have never had any Harley hit the primary before the foot pegs except for this softail. and I 'm not pushing it that hard. Nothing near what I could do on my king or Dyna. Maybe thats why outlaws ride Dyna's and not Softails
post up a picture of the bike from the side. My guess is just like the others. it is probably lowered in front and back. i have never scrapped my primary and its lowered
