I will look into the lowers and see what fits. Also, have seen good reviews on the Windvest 16" These windshields are expensive ($400) to be experimenting with to see if I like them.

I have the H-D quick detachable windshield for my '07 FXSTC. I travel with the H-D cycle cover for my bike. I mount the cover, inside its bag, to the lower triple tree on my front forks with bungees, it hangs just above the front fender. This stops all buffeting coming from below the windshield and the fender has never come close to hitting the bag. It completely eliminates buffeting as an issue. I have been doing this for several high mileage trips (3600+ miles each) since the bike was new. No buffeting, no engine heating, works great!
Only problem you might have is buying the cover, but it's a high quality water-proof piece and worth the money IMO.

Do you have the large or small detachable HD windshield? Do you have any pics of the front of your bike with this setup? Sounds very interesting and also sounds like you can make the HD w/s work.

I have a Memphis Shades. Can't remember the model name but it's the largest of the sport models. It works great.

I've got a Q.R. shield for my 94 fxstc, I had some highway buffeting until I added the lowers. Wind was coming up over the tank.

I've attached a picture that should answer your questions.
If not, ask again and I'll try to answer with a better description. I think the windshield is the large detachable for the FXSTC.
